Arsenal target Dennis Praet was once described as ‘physically weak’ by former manager Arsene Wenger during a trial with the club as a teenager.
The Sampdoria midfielder has been linked with a £40million double summer switch to the Emirates, along with 23-year-old team-mate, Joachim Andersen.
As a 16-year-old, Praet had a trial with Arsenal, where he hoped to impress, having attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Barcelona and Ajax.
Praet, 25, played against the Gunners in the Champions League group stages for Anderlecht during the 2014/15 season when the Belgians memorably fought back from three goals down to earn a point.

During those encounters, Wenger was asked to recall Praet’s trial at the club.
“When he was 15 or 16 years old, he came with Kyle Ebecilio who, in between, went back to Holland,” he said.
“At the time, he was judged – I didn’t know he was here, I didn’t know him at the time – a bit weak physically.
“Since then he has developed well. I was honestly impressed by his performance when we played in the first game [which Arsenal won 2-1 in Anderlecht].”
Praet told Belgian newspaper HLN about his time with Arsenal in 2014: “I was 16 when I went to do a trial at Arsenal.
“I played a match with the reserves, I visited the training complex and I went through training with the first team. I never met Arsene Wenger.
He added: “The move to Arsenal fell through because I gave priority to school. Absolutely 100 per cent I wanted to finish my school and at Anderlecht I could make the perfect combination.”
