Liverpool more than held their own in Catalonia, and it appeared they were going to come away with a creditable 1-0 loss after Luis Suarez opened the scoring.
However, Messi turned on the style late on, first finishing into an empty net after Suarez hit the crossbar, then curling a truly superb free-kick past Alisson to make Barca’s victory an emphatic one.

Liverpool had late chances to score an away goal which could have proven vital in their bid to overcome Barca and reach the European Cup final, but Roberto Firmino had a strike cleared off the line before Mohamed Salah struck the post with the rebound.
And, allegedly, Klopp was so keen on his side finding the back of the net at Camp Nou he actually ordered goalkeeper Alisson to go up for a late corner.
The glovesman refused to do so, however, as Anfield hero Steve McManaman spotted in his role as BT Sport co-commentator.
“Jurgen’s pointing at Alisson to get in the box as well, and Alisson just said no to him!” McManaman said on the incident, which was not caught on television cameras.

Alisson did eventually go up for the corner, only to retreat – this time on Salah’s orders.
“Now he’s going,” McManaman later added. “He’s been told no again. Salah said no to him this time.”

Barca almost scored their fourth goal of the game from this very corner, as they broke with pace into the Reds’ half. However, Suarez failed to convert after being played in by Messi.
Klopp is refusing to accept Liverpool are out of the tie despite losing 3-0 at Camp Nou, though he did admit his side face a tough task at Anfield next week.
“It is difficult because it is Barcelona and they can play for counter-attack which doesn’t help us a lot,” the German said after Wednesday’s match.
“Because it is football we should still try but it didn’t make our life easier.”
