Alfredo Morelos red cards: Every sending off for Rangers this season, as Steven Gerrard tells striker to channel aggression

His goals may be helping Rangers in the Scottish Premiership this season, but Alfredo Morelos’ temper is definitely not.

The striker has scored 29 Premiership goals for Steven Gerrard’s side so far, but he has also been sent off five times, the most recent being in Sunday afternoon’s Old Firm game at Celtic Park.

An off-the-ball skirmish with Bhoys captain Scott Brown led to the Colombia international raising his arm in an aggressive swipe at the Scot.

Morelos has received three of the five red cards against Aberdeen, with the most recent coming in the 4-2 win where he scored twice before his dismissal.

And exasperated boss Steven Gerrard said after the game in January his player must find a way to improve his discipline.

“I think for Alfredo to go to the next level or to improve he will have to channel his aggression,” the manager said after the win, which also saw defender Scott McKenna receive his marching orders.

“I haven’t had the chance to analyse the incident so I can’t tell you if Scott deserved a red or whether Alfredo did. They’ve had a fantastic battle up until that point.

“Two top players, but unfortunately they have both ended up with red cards. Whether they deserved it I’ll have to analyse it. If Alfredo is in the wrong then he’ll deserve the red card.

“He’ll then be missing for two games and that’s how he’ll get punished because he hates missing games. But I’m doing everything in my power to help the kid grow as a footballer and as a person.

“I’m not going to take the physical side away from him because he’ll get bullied out there against some strong physical players.”

The logic in Ozil's case is simple. Arsenal could pay a proportion of his wages this summer and allow him to leave as a free agent - perhaps so many of those clubs whose interest has cooled on him since signing that contract would be prepared to revive their interest without a transfer fee being required.
