Liverpool injury latest: Updates on Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as both miss final training session ahead of Barcelona clash

Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both expected to be fit to face Barcelona at Anfield despite missing the last team training session before the match.

The Reds were handed a double blow over the weekend with both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino set to miss the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash.

Salah left the pitch on a stretcher following a collision with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka during Saturday evening’s 3-2 defeat of the Magpies.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed the Egypt forward suffered a concussion and would not play against Barcelona.

Firmino did not play in Saturday’s fixture due to a muscle injury and will also miss out this evening as Liverpool attempt to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg.

Klopp was handed fresh concerns on Monday as both Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain missed training with their team-mates.

Van Dijk is understood to be struggling with a foot injury that has troubled him over the past few weeks.

He is still expected to start on Tuesday, however, with a Liverpool spokesman saying the defender only missed full training with the team so he could take part in an individual, tailored training session.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is also thought to have also undertaken a lighter, tailored session but it has not been confirmed if there is a specific injury concern.

The 25-year-old only recently returned to first-team action following a lengthy lay-off with a serious knee injury.
