Tottenham Hotspur: Why Spurs’ record against Bournemouth suggests they don’t need Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur face another game without striker Harry Kane on Saturday with the England ace still out injured.

The 26-year-old has been absent since his challenge on Fabian Delph in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Manchester City.

Now Spurs must do battle with Bournemouth without their superstar goal-getter – the 13th he’s missed through injury this season.

It’s a massive clash too, just days after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Ajax in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie and with a top four spot still on the line.

It would be understandable if Tottenham fans were getting worried about their progress in the domestic and European competitions – but perhaps they needn’t.

Tottenham's Premier League record against Bournemouth

  • Bournemouth 1-5 Tottenham (October 25, 2015)

  • Tottenham 3-0 Bournemouth (March 20, 2016)

  • Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham (October 22, 2016)

  • Tottenham 4-0 Bournemouth (April 15, 2017)

  • Tottenham 1-0 Bournemouth (October 14, 2017)

  • Bournemouth 1-4 Tottenham (March 11, 2018)

  • Tottenham 5-0 Bournemouth (December 26, 2018)

Since Bournemouth burst onto the Premier League scene four seasons ago, Spurs have had an impressive record against the south coast club, winning six of the seven games they have played in that time.

And while Kane may have hit a hat-trick in their first encounter, he’s only contributed four other goals out of a possible 19 the Lilywhites have netted.

In these fixtures, they’ve managed to spread the goals around too with eight different players also scoring, other than Kane – even Vincent Janssen, who could play a part, has rifled one home against Eddie Howe’s team.

Tottenham players who have scored against Bournemouth since 2015

  1.  Harry Kane – 7 goals

  2. Christian Eriksen – 3 goals

  3. Heung-Min Son – 3 goals

  4. Mousa Dembele – 2 goals

  5. Erik Lamela – 1 goal

  6. Vincent Janssen – 1 goal

  7. Dele Alli – 1 goal

  8. Serge Aurier – 1 goal

  9. Lucas Moura – 1 goal

So, can Spurs call on one of their other stars to step up this weekend? The stats seem to suggest so!
