Tony Bellew wants ‘big club’ Leeds United back in the Premier League – ‘the sooner the better!’

Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew wants ‘big club’ Leeds United back in the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side face a challenging play-off campaign having missed out on automatic promotion this season, with last weekend’s 1-1 home draw with Aston Villa confirming Sheffield United’s rise to the top flight.

The Blades were the second team to book their place in the Premier League for 2019/20, after Norwich sealed promotion the previous day.

Leeds are guaranteed of a place in the play-offs heading into this weekend’s final matchday, along with West Brom and Aston Villa.

The final place is still unconfirmed, though Derby can take a huge step towards securing sixth place should they beat Swansea this evening. You can listen to full commentary of tonight’s clash LIVE on talkSPORT 2.

There has been real praise directed at Leeds throughout the season, and many want to see them end their 15-year exile from the top flight – especially with the iconic Bielsa in charge.

And former boxer Bellew, himself a devout Everton supporter, is one of those hoping the Whites get back where they belong.

“The sooner Leeds are back in the Premiership [sic] the better,” he wrote on Twitter. “The big clubs need to be in the Premier League.. Good luck to them..”

Leeds visit relegated Ipswich on the final day hoping to secure a third place finish. Should they do so, Bielsa’s side will face off against sixth in the play-off semi-finals, hoping to reach the Wembley showpiece on June 1.
