Chelsea teenager Mason Mount will be looking to guide Derby to Championship play-off glory this weekend.
The 20-year-old midfielder has been superb for Frank Lampard’s side this term and he could well be playing in the Premier League next season no matter what happens at Wembley.
He has impressed throughout the Championship season, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in 43 games for the Rams.
Mount is now expected to go from strength-to-strength next year and could well be part of Chelsea’s senior squad for the new season amid their transfer ban problems.
Here, talkSPORT.com takes a look at his life in football up to this point.
Who is Mason Mount?
Mount’s talent was apparent from a very early age. Born in Portsmouth, he was competing in under-six leagues at the age of four while spending one day a week training in the academies of Pompey, Southampton and Chelsea.
In 2005, six-year-old Mount joined the Blues. He made his under-18 debut in the 2013/14 season and worked his way into England’s youth set-up the following campaign.
During the 2016/17 season, the youngster established himself as a regular in Chelsea’s under-18s and under-21s, netting ten goals in 39 appearances.

Chelsea rewarded him with a four-year contract in 2017, running until 2021, before loaning him out to Dutch club Vitesse – the stomping ground for so many Blues academy products.
While many bright Chelsea careers fade away in the Netherlands, Mount’s loan spell was incredibly fruitful.
The teenager made 39 appearances in all competitions for Vitesse, scoring 14 goals and notching up 10 assists, while appearing in the Eredivisie Team of the Week on several occasions and winning the club’s player of the season award.
Upon his return to Chelsea, Mount was immediately loaned out to Derby, who had recently appointed Blues legend Lampard as their new manager.
The 19-year-old scored on his debut as the Rams beat Reading 2-1 and most recently netted in their dramatic play-off semi-final win over Leeds.
Mount caught the eye during his side’s dramatic penalty-shootout victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup and England boss Gareth Southgate has also hailed him.
“Mount stepped up and scored a penalty at Old Trafford, he took it like he had been there all his life,” Southgate said after calling up Mount to his squad in October.
“Very often we hold youngsters back a bit too much and I’m always trying to find that balance.”
